Learn how to create the perfect present for your loved ones: a field-fresh bush-flower posey! Engage with the age old craft of flower arranging; be inspired by internationally renowned floral artistry; and get the low down on flower care tips and tricks. Florist and artist Gert Geyer will demonstrate to students and assist them in creating a small posey, using in-season and locally sourced flowers and foliage.
During this class we will learn about historical context of flower arranging and the meaning of flowers, you’ll get an inspiration from the pictures of floral sculptures made by internationally renowned floral artists, including Asuma Makota.
We will providing all the information about materials and tools needed and a demonstration of different flower arranging techniques including how to clean up and cut stems, create a skeleton with the foliage, insert colour and texture, wrap the finished posey and how to care for it afterwards.
Then, we will create our own posies!
Gert Geyer is a Brisbane-based artist whose practice spans illustration, floral sculpture and printmaking. She studied floristry at NMIT and has previously worked at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, servicing both large scale floral installations and in-house weddings. She also has extensive professional experience with native flowers and is an experienced and stealthy flower forager.
